Topic: Mad World

Just picked this game up. While moving, I discovered a veritable ass load of games to trade in, so I ended up getting it for free (with $20 left over).

Dear God, this is fun. I haven't had this much fun since Saint's Row 2, and before that I have no idea. Make no mistake, this is brutal stuff. Part of the TUTORIAL involves you stuffing a guy into a tire, impaling his skull with a street sign, then repeatedly goring him on wall-mounted spikes. So if that ain't your thing, move along.

The game is basically No More Heroes with all the crappy free-roaming and grinding cut out, and pretty much everything else tweaked for the better. You jump from level to level and beat up an army of mooks while occasionally participating in minigames like throwing as many people you can into a jet turbine, and then you fight a gigantic boss. The game is just like one of those old arcade beat-em-ups like Streets of Rage taken to a whole new level.

The motion controls are similar to No More Heroes' but there are more opportunities here. You need to waggle to operate your wrist-mounted chainsaw and perform backhands and uppercuts, but it really shines during the finishing moves. While punching a guy silly, uppercut him, then turn on your chainsaw and point up to bisect him. When a guy's on the ground, grab his foot and start slamming him back and forth over your head. Swing him around and caber toss him into a garbage can/torture device. It's pure fun.

If you've got a Wii, go and check it out. It's certainly not like you're using it for much else right now.

What's the name of the word for things not being the same always. You know. I'm sure there IS one. Isn't there?
There must be a word for it... the thing that lets you know time is happening. IS there a word?

Re: Mad World

Yes!

I really wanted to buy Mad World when it came out, but I didn't have the cash for a brand new game. Glad to hear you like it. The screenshots sort of hurt my eyes, and I was worried the black and white would make it difficult to play.

It's by a newly formed studio made up of former Clover workers - Viewtiful Joe, Okami, God Hand - nice to know they haven't lost their touch.

Also, I guess that makes you the second person in the world to purchase and complete No More Heroes.

Re: Mad World

Wait, who is the other person who have purchase and completed No more Heroes?
Cuz I have that game and beat the living hell out of it.  Hard mode with everything unlocked, expert for one of those stupid berries that you give to that hobo in the bar.  Who teaches you moves by beating/raping you.  But that game was fun as hell.  This summer, I hope to buy Mad World, when I can reach for a Wii again, but we will see if I have time.

What's that?  You can't see?  Well let me help you with that.
See it's much easier to see, when you draw eyeballs for yourself.

Re: Mad World

I was counting myself. I didn't know you bought it.

Re: Mad World

If this game does with Sin City what Godhand did with Fist of the North Star, then I'm sure I'll love it.

Re: Mad World

Scott, the graphics have actually been altered slightly since the first screens. Now it's black and some sort of beige, and there's a bit more color, so it's actually quite easy on the eyes without really affecting the style.

Re: Mad World

This is only tangentially related, but have you seen the trailer for the other game Platinum is making? It's the guy who made Devil May Cry, making fun of Devil May Cry (although the angels that show up make me wonder if he's mocking the fourth game specifically).

Re: Mad World

Alot of the backgrounds look straight out of DMC 4. Her crazy demon suit kinda reminds me of some of Nero's over the top devil trigger moves as well.

Re: Mad World

Sortof late to reply to this but.... goddamn I like Mad World. My only complaint with the game is honestly that normal mode was a bit too easy. I ended up beating the game fairly quickly, and even though hard mode is awesome and much more challenging, I feel less motivated to go through it having already beaten the game.

The female boss song, You Don't Know Me, is awesome.

I wear the hottest shit.
